An addon domain is a fully functional domain that can be created from within your control panel. Think of it as having multiple hosting packages all sharing the same control panel. You can give them email addresses, forwarders, and more the same way you do for your main domain on the account. The addon domain will exist inside the public_html directory of your account with the folder name you choose for it upon creation.

You cannot create an addon domain if your dns for the site you are trying to add hasn't prorogated yet. To create an addon domain login to your cpanel and click "addon domains." There are three fields cPanel asks for when creating an addon domain. 1. "New Domain Name:" You will put in the newdomain.com do not put www in the name! 2. "Username/directory/subdomain Name:" This will be the folder cPanel creates in your main accounts public_html folder. MAKE SURE that the name you give it doesn't already have a folder. Example... If you want to give it the username chris. You cannot have a folder in your account named chris already. If you do and still try creating the username for the addon domain to be chris you will corrupt multiple things on your account. 3. "Password:" fill in any password you want here.

Please ignore this! It is a fully functional domain name that can have it's own emails, forwarders, and pages. Cpanel calls it a subdomain because the addon domain exists in inside your sites public_html directory with the folder name you gave it upon creation.

public_html/ADD-ON DIRECTORY NAME would be the correct path. We cannot tell you what the directory name is since you created it and picked the name at such time.

www.domain.com is a domain name. A subdomain is anything that replaces the www in a domain name. support.rgvinternet.com is a subdomain. (www.support.rgvinternet.com is NOT a subdomain.

To create a sub domain cPanel asks for the name you wish to use. MAKE SURE the subdomain name you give it doesn't have a folder already named that name. If it does the sub will not work. Example... I want to create the subdomain test.hostgator.com so my sub name is going to be test. If I already have a folder in my ftp named test I need to delete it or rename it to something different before I create the subdomain with the test name from cPanel.

1. The server is designed to block most attachment types if they are not zipped up. A few of them being blocked are... .pdf .src .exe the reason for this is that your mailbox would be flooded every day with viruses if this was not in place. A few attachments that are fine without zipping up are .gif .jpg .html unfortunately there is no way to turn this off so your only option is to zip your attachment or doing the below. 2. Another reason could be the size of the attachment if you're sending a 10mb or larger attachment it will fail due to the size. If you are sending it from webmail this limit is less than 2mb. A better option to get around these limits would be to upload the file to your site and give out the link instead. You could even password protect so the public cannot view or access.

It usually takes 24-48 hours for a domain to fully propagate. This however all depends on your isp it might update within minutes for your neighbor but take up to a week for you. The reason for this is the local routers your isp runs off of update at different times. If you are on comcast or road runner cable it is very common for dns take a week or more to update.

Any time you make a DNS (domain name server) change it takes around 24-48 hours to complete. During this proprogation time routers all over the world are updating their cache. This causes your site to be up and down randomly during the first 48 hours for different people at different times. Think of dns like a zip code. If you don't put a zip code on your mail the post office doesn't know where to send it. Domains are the same way if they don't have the DNS the internet doesn't know what server to send your request to. Making The Changes Every registar has a different procedure for changing your domains DNS, however they are all done basically the same way. The welcome email you received from us provides you with the name servers you need to change your domain to. You will than take those name servers to wherever you bought your domain, and fill them in for your domain name. Your name servers should look something like... ns1.rgvinternet.com ns2.rgvinternet.com (do not use the above unless told so in your welcome email)
